Unai Emery confirms when Granit Xhaka will make his Arsenal return following first-team exile

Granit Xhaka is in contention to make his first Arsenal appearance in over a month, Unai Emery has confirmed.

The Gunners welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the Emirates Stadium tomorrow night in a game which could seal their place in the knockout stages of this season's Europa League.

However, achieving a positive result is far from a given.

The north London outfit are without a win across any competition since coming from behind to beat Vitoria at home late last month and this run of form includes throwing away leads in four successive games.

Three days later brought about a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace which was also the last time Xhaka featured at club level.

And he made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

As Xhaka slowly walked off the pitch to be replaced by Bukayo Saka he gestured obscenities to the fans who were booing him, threw his shirt to the ground as he stormed down the tunnel.

His punishment was to be stripped of the captaincy as well as being exiled from the first-team and his only game time over the past month has come on international duty with Switzerland.

But the time has come for Xhaka to be welcomed back into the fold and Emery has revealed that the 27-year-old is in contention to face Frankfurt.

"He's in the group and he has the possibility to play," Emery told reporters at London Colney on Wednesday afternoon. "I hope every supporter supports him.

"Xhaka's comeback is going to be important for us."

Xhaka was one of several players to take part in a training session on the eve of the Europa League encounter and he will be pushing Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi for a spot in central midfield.
