Unai Emery reveals what Arsenal will do about Granit Xhaka after midfielder gestures at fans

Unai Emery has admitted that Granit Xhaka was 'wrong' to insult Arsenal fans after being substituted against Crystal Palace.

Xhaka was taken off with the game finely poised at 2-2 as Palace came back from 2-0 down. The 27-year-old was replaced by youngster Bukayo Saka as Unai Emery looked to grab a winner with 29 minutes remaining

The announcement of his departure brought about cheers from the home supporters but as he strolled off the field, those cheers turned to boos from the home support.

He then responded by cupping his ear towards the fans before taking his shirt and storming straight down the tunnel.

The midfielder also appeared to shout f*** off" to the Arsenal fans as he departed the field of play.

Arsenal had led 2-0 through goals from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz but Palace hit back through Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew.

Sokratis thought he scored a late winner, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review after Calum Chambers was adjudged to have committed a foul in the build-up.

Speaking about Xhaka after the game, Emery said: "He was wrong. We need to stay calm, speak to him internally about that.

"We are working with the club and the players to play under pressure.

"We are going to speak with him because the reaction was wrong.

"We are here because we have supporters. We work for them and need to have respect for them when they are applauding us and criticising us."
