Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said that he wants more than one captain in the team next season, regardless of who takes over from current skipper Laurent Koscielny.
The Centre-Back is likely to be stripped of the captaincy following his refusal to travel with his teammates on the pre-season tour of the USA in order to try and force a summer move away from the Emirates Stadium.
As previously reported by football.london, it is believed that the Frenchman wishes for the club to release him from the final year of his contract so that he can return and play his football in his home country.
The situation with Koscielny has led to a debate among fans and pundits alike as to who may get the nod to take the captain's armband for the 2019/20 campaign.
The question was put to the Arsenal manager ahead of the club's International Champions Cup match against Bayern Munich.
"We spoke a little about that. Last year we had Laurent, Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey. At the moment Koscielny has a contract with us but we'll speak with the club and him about if he'll continue or not," the Spaniard answered.
"We have players with the capacity, one is Granit, he was a captain in the dressing room. We have others like Mesut, Nacho. There are other players who can take this position also.
"I want between three and five captains in the team."
Arsenal are back in action as they in the club's second pre-season game in the early hours of Thursday morning, as Unai Emery's men continue their preparations ahead of the opening Premier League game against Newcastle.
