Unai Emery reveals how Arsenal can close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City

Unai Emery has a plan to get Arsenal challenging towards the top of the Premier League table in the near future.

In recent seasons the Gunners have been way off champions Manchester City. 2017/18 brought about a 37 points gap between the two teams, while last term was somewhat better but 28 points is still too much.

Despite a positive summer transfer window where the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney, Dani Ceballos and David Luiz were all recruited, the north London outfit look poised for another top four battle.

The club well placed to challenge and dethrone Pep Guardiola's side is Liverpool.

Both teams accumulated over 90 points last season and that total is the benchmark for any other club with hopes of being crowned champions of England.

But how do Arsenal reach that level? Well, Emery has outlined his plan.

"First we need to improve the adaptation of the different players who have come here in the last moments," he said. "Also, we need to improve in our way.

"For example, I think we can continue being very offensive with a lot of important offensive players.

"We also want to take the balance defensively to be strong and I think the first four matches allowed us to show our first characteristic: to be offensive.

"Maybe we need to continue working to create a balance defensively in some moments, and also tactically when making some decisions.

"Really, the most important thing is how we can show our support and our energy, our spirit.

"We want to win each match but also to show to them our speed, our energy playing with intensity. I think we are working to do that in our way in our target of giving them a big characteristic for us.

"We want to play with energy."
