Unai Emery reveals Arsenal's transfer plans as the club closes in on £72m Nicolas Pepe signing

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has admitted that there may be more arrivals at the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes in just over a week.

The Gunners have so far bought in three new additions to the squad as Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba and Dani Ceballos have arrived at the club. Arsenal fans are also playing the waiting game as they await the official announcement of club record signing Nicolas Pepe from Lille who is set to be the fourth arrival of the summer.

Following Arsenal's pre-season draw with French side Angers on Wednesday evening, Emery admitted that Pepe is one player who the club are following.

"He played here in Angers a few years ago, and then in Lille. He has progressed as a player," the Arsenal boss said when asked about how Pepe would fit into the squad. "We are speaking about a lot of players, we want to select on players who can really help us, give us big performances and improve our squad. We have different options. This one at the moment is not closed, but he is one we are following.

No deal is official now, and I will only speak in the next hours or days if it can be official for us."

Although he was reluctant to talk about Pepe specifically, Emery did reveal that he and his backroom staff are still on the lookout for players in order to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.

"We are working on the possibilities to sign players," he said. "We signed Ceballos, and we have a possibility with Pepe. We are looking for the possibility to improve, but only if we can take more steps in the squad.

"Our target is to sign another player if he can really, really improve us. Our target is continuing to sign another player if we can."
