Unai Emery provides Arsenal transfer update as they chase Wilfried Zaha and Kieran Tierney

Arsenal boss Unai Emery admits he needs to strengthen his side as they continue to work hard in the transfer market.

The Gunners are working with a limited budget and have so far added only Gabriel Martinelli in a £5m deal this summer.

The Brazilian youngster enjoyed an impressive debut marked with a goal as a young Arsenal side beat Colorado Rapids 3-0 in their pre-season opener.

But Emery admitted they "need someone to help" as he discussed their transfer dealings after the match.

With Edu entering as their sporting director, the Spaniard says negotiations are ongoing but he refused to directly discuss their moves for Kieran Tierney and Wilfried Zaha when asked specifically about the pair.

And he insisted they will be patient as they look to enter the new Premier League season in a position to battle for a return to the top four

“The club is working," Emery said. "We are speaking every day with the club and Edu.

"I prefer to work with patience and calm and take the best decision.

“We have very good players, very young good players. We need someone to help us. The club is working on that.

“We prefer to take the best decision with patience. If we need to wait more time for this reason I prefer to do that.”

Emery also stated he plans to give young players a chance to impress and work their way into his plans.

Asked about Martinelli's first-team future after a promising debut, he declared: “Our idea is to give every young player chances to be with us, first in the training ground and after playing matches like today.

“The idea is to give them more chances in other matches. They will win the possibility to be with us with their performances.”
