Unai Emery plays down Mesut Ozil touchline row after Arsenal star throws jacket towards Everton bench

Arsenal coach Unai Emery admits his side must learn to contain their emotions after becoming embroiled in a touchline row during their 1-0 defeat to Everton.

Mesut Ozil, who had been substituted after a below-par display, appeared to throw his jacket towards Everton manager Marco Silva after a row with Emery erupted following a strong challenge from Shkodran Mustafi on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It capped a frustrating afternoon for Arsenal, who missed the chance to go third above Tottenham following a dismal display at Goodison Park.

The Spaniard was quick to play down the incident after the match but reminded his players not to lose focus of their position in the fight for a top-four finish.

"We need to limit our frustration and we are learning that," Emery told Sky Sports.

"[It was] not a good result but we are in a good way, we are fourth in the table. We have a big match against Napoli in midweek and the next week against Watford is a positive game for us.

"We lost but we need to get back up quickly and find the next win."

Toffees boss Silva revealed after the game that he "didn't see" the coat being thrown at him but the Portuguese suggested there was no ill feeling between the two managers after shaking hands at the final whistle.

"We had that moment in the game. Football is emotional," he said.

"He [Emery] wants the best for his team and I want the best for mine. At the end of the game, I say to him the 'best of luck' and that's it. It's normal."

Arsenal could find themselves out of the Champions League places if Chelsea beat West Ham on Monday night, although they would have a game in hand heading into the final games of the season.
