Unai Emery names the game where it all went wrong for him at Arsenal

Former Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has named the 1-0 Premier League defeat against Sheffield United as a 'turning point' as his time in charge of the Gunners.

The Spaniard was sacked following a 2-1 Europa League loss against Eintracht Frankfurt just eight games after the defeat against the Blades, after winning just one of them games.

Emery has since been replaced by former midfielder Mikel Arteta who has taken over as head coach at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking on Guillem Balague's YouTube channel, the former Arsenal boss has said that the defeat against the newly promoted side kickstarted a "terrible" month at the club.

Mikel Arteta: We need to be stronger for longer after Chelsea defeat

"The game against Sheffield United was a bit of a turning point," he said

"In one month everything got broken and we were incapable of winning a game in seven. The tension - which was based on the question we were asking of "what's happening to us?" - was like a rolling ball that was just getting bigger and bigger.

"The coach is the first person to come into the spotlight, I have lived this at other clubs but I have managed to conquer it by getting the team back on track.

"But the truth is that month at Arsenal was terrible."

Results during the month included a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, where then captain Granit Xhaka reacted to fans when he was substituted, leading to him being stripped of the armband.

Arsenal also lost to Leicester and drew with Southampton and Wolves as Emery failed to turn around the form.
