Unai Emery lauds Alexandre Lacazette mentality as Arsenal torment toothless Chelsea

Unai Emery has hailed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his versatility and attitude after he starred alongside Alexandre Lacazette during the 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The Gabon international has often been asked to play out wide or has been named on the bench to accommodate Lacazette as the central striker.

On a day where his Chelsea counterpart, Maurizio Sarri, slammed his squad for lacking determination, motivation and a fighting attitude, Emery was full of praise for his striker’s approach.

“Aubameyang can play also right or left, and when he was playing in different positions the most important thing is his attitude and his mentality.

“When I asked him, he said to me ‘yes I am going to do that’, but the first position for him is to play like an attacking player.”

The pairing of Lacazette and Aubameyang with Aaron Ramsey sat behind them at the tip of a midfield diamond worked well here against Chelsea, but Emery said in some games it is impossible for the two to feature alongside each other.

“It depends each match, it is not the same match against West Ham, today, Manchester United next week or Cardiff,” he said.

“But I am finding and working the best balance with all the players and sometimes we can play together and other matches it is impossible to play together because maybe we need another idea in some matches with a system with one attacking player.”
