Unai Emery insists fans must change Arsenal atmosphere to help struggling side

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has urged fans to change the atmosphere at the Emirates - to stop opposing teams being fearless.

The Gunners have failed to win their last six Premier League games and needed a last-gasp Alexandre Lacazette goal to salvage a point at home to Southampton on Saturday.

They return to Europa League action at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, the competition in which they last won a game after Nicolas Pepe's late show against Vitoria last month.

Pressure has mounted on Emery amid a growing sense of frustration amongst fans leading to club bosses considering his future.

The Spaniard has now raised further eyebrows amongst the fan base by appearing to suggest they have contributed to sides visiting the Emirates with a fearless approach as he urged them to provide the team with more positive energy.

"We know the last match we were disappointed and the supporters also," Emery said.

“My only focus is to show tomorrow our performance and connect with our supporters. We know our supporters are disappointed... it’s really, really our focus [to connect with them].

“Some teams are coming here fearless.

“My wish is tomorrow every supporter helps the team and helps the players.

“Our confidence depends a lot on how we can feel in our stadium with our supporters.

"Teams are coming here fearing us less and this is the first thing we need to change.

"We need to be strong and together. We need to show our supporters our capacity and skills.

"They are angry and disappointed, as well we are."

Asked about his priorities entering Thursday's game, Emery stated: "We are doing a very good job in this competition but we need to make sure of our first position in the table.

"Our second objective is to win and take confidence as well as connect with our supporters.
