Unai Emery is holding talks with Nacho Monreal about his future with Real Sociedad believing they are close to a deal for the Spain left back.
Sociedad have offered 33-year-old Monreal a two-year deal plus a one-year extension to try and tempt him away from the Emirates and back to Spain.
Gunners boss Emery is well stocked with left backs after signing Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac is also available so the final decision will be left to Monreal.
But Tierney is still some weeks away from being fit after surgery in the summer and that leaves Arsenal with a dilemma, although if Monreal wants to go then they are likely to give it the green light.
Monreal has a year left on his current deal, made it clear last month that he wanted to stay when he spoke to Mirror Sport on the club’s US tour and said: “My idea is to stay here. I belong at Arsenal.”
But Tierney’s arrival has clearly changed things and Emery has hinted Monreal could go, although the Arsenal boss rates the Spanish veteran highly and picked him ahead of Kolasinac against Liverpool and also Burnley when he was made captain.
Arsenal have already said that Shkodran Mustafi and Mohamed Elneny can both leave the club before the European window shuts.
Mustafi has made it clear he is in no rush to leave with Arsenal keen to offload him while Bordeaux are interested in Elneny, having already signed Laurent Koscielny.
