Unai Emery handed major injury blow ahead of Arsenal clash as Villarreal make announcement

Villarreal have confirmed that defender Juan Foyth has suffered a hamstring injury, but have not revealed a return date just yet.

Foyth, who is on loan at the Spanish club from Tottenham Hotspur, was replaced on 70 minutes in Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to the La Liga club on Thursday evening in their Europa League semi-final first-leg.

The Gunners scored a crucial away goal in the second-half of the clash in Spain ahead of next week's decisive leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Now, Villarreal have received a major blow, with Foyth - who was one of the standout stars against Arsenal - injuring his hamstring.

The La Liga side said on their official website: "After the tests carried out, it has been confirmed that footballer Juan Foyth suffered muscle damage to the hamstrings of his left leg during the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals against Arsenal FC.

"The recovery time will be subject to the evolution of the player."

Despite Villarreal not revealing how long the Argentine defender is set to be sidelined for, it's almost certain that he will miss the second-leg in north London.

The Spanish side take on Getafe in La Liga on Sunday afternoon, as they look to secure a fifth-place finish in the top-flight.

Speaking after the win over Arsenal, the Spurs loanee tweeted: "Important victory against a difficult opponent. A pity not to have been able to finish the match on such a special night.

"Tomorrow they will do a study to know the state of the injury. I hope it is nothing serious and that I can return as soon as possible with my colleagues."
