Unai Emery gives verdict on Granit Xhaka 'duck' for Manchester United goal

Unai Emery praised Granit Xhaka for showing a "big commitment" for Arsenal against Manchester United .

The Gunners skipper was ridiculed for ducking out of the way of the Scott McTominay shot that gave United the lead at Old Trafford. The midfielder's effort took a slight deflection but it looked like Xhaka could have blocked it had he not dropped his head out of the way.

Emery was full of praise for his captain's efforts, but admitted he hadn't seen the replay that showed Xhaka duck out of harm's way.

"He worked with a big commitment," Emery said of Xhaka when he asked about it in his post-match press conference.

When he was told Xhaka had ducked the shot on the stroke of half-time, he asked a member of Arsenal staff for clarification and revealed he hadn't seen the incident.

The Switzerland international had ran back to try and halt the counter, but was lucky to avoid a booking for hauling down Jesse Lingard in that move that led to the goal.

"He ran back and I didn't see that action [the duck] but I watch it when he was running back and he did perfect with that run," Emery said.
