Unai Emery dismisses talk of squad indiscipline following another Arsenal red card against Rennes

Unai Emery has dismissed talk of a discipline problem at Arsenal after their third red card in recent weeks.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos was sent off for two bookable offences before half-time in their Europa League defeat to Rennes on Thursday.

Alexandre Lacazette was unavailable for that contest after he was sent off in the previous round against BATE Borisov while Lucas Torreira was given his marching orders in last Saturday’s north London derby against Tottenham.

But when the question of squad discipline was raised in his post-match press conference following their defeat in Brittany, Emery defended his group.

“I think it is not easy, he told reporters. “We can analyse these three red cards individually.”

Arsenal's hopes of reaching the Europa League last 16 stage have taken a major hit after a 3-1 defeat to Rennes.

The Gunners took the lead when Alex Iwobi's cross found its way into the far corner but the Gunners crumbled in front of a rocking home crowd.

Superb efforts from Benjamin Bourigeaud and Ismaila Sarr either side of Nacho Monreal's own goal leave Unai Emery and his side with plenty to do in north London.
