Unai Emery confirms Granit Xhaka will not play against Leicester but drops Mesut Ozil hint

Unai Emery has confirmed that Granit Xhaka is still not ready to return to the Arsenal first team.

The Swiss midfielder has not featured since his spat with supporters during the Crystal Palace game, and has since been stripped of the club captaincy.

There was talk the 27-year-old could be integrated into the team against Vitoria in midweek, but Emery omitted his former captain from the squad for the 1-1 draw.

And asked if the midfielder would feature at the King Power Stadium against Leicester on Saturday, Emery said: "Not yet. I spoke with him on Tuesday for how he is feeling now and his mind because he is training well but he said to me he can’t play.

“We are going to wait.”

Xhaka's absence provides Emery with a midfield headache, with Dani Ceballos also out of the clash against Brendan Rodgers' side.

"[Dani] Ceballos has a small injury and he is going to be out for tomorrow," Emery said.

“The rest of the squad, I think they are ready for tomorrow.”

Mesut Ozil made his first start since September in the 1-1 draw with Wolves last weekend, and Emery hinted that the German midfielder could play a key role at the weekend.

“He is training well and I think he is now being consistent in the training, he is also helping and positive.

“I am thinking he has a possibility to play tomorrow.”
