Unai Emery and Arsenal handed massive injury boost ahead of Newcastle United clash

Arsenal and Unai Emery have been handed a massive injury boost ahead of this weekend's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

Loan signing Dani Ceballos emerged as a doubt after being on the receiving end of a kick from Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet in the Gunners' final pre-season fixture last weekend.

Speaking after the 2-1 loss at the Camp Nou, Emery delivered a rather concerning update.

"My idea was to play Ceballos for about 20 minutes," Emery told reporters.

"He was very sore after Lenglet’s kick and he can’t train for the next few days."

But it would appear that the Spanish midfielder has recovered from the knock and should be able to take his place in the squad which travels to Tyneside for Sunday's 2pm kick-off.

The Gunners delivered an injury update on Friday morning and Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe as well as Mohamed Elneny are all being assessed ahead of the game at St James' Park.

Furthermore, Hector Bellerin, Emile Smith Rowe and Konstantions Mavropanos won't feature, while Rob Holding is back in full training following eight months on the sidelines.

However, there was no sign of Ceballos on the list.

This suggest he's fit and available, thus providing Emery with somewhat of a midfield selection headache.

Granit Xhaka, Joe Willock, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi are all pushing for starts centrally, while Mesut Ozil - a scorer in the corresponding fixture last season - is an option in the no.10 role.

Though there's a chance Ceballos will be named on the bench as his minutes in pre-season were limited after linking up with his new teammates late because of the European U21 Championships earlier in the summer.
