Unai Emery and Arsenal given hope of summer move as January target's agent issues fresh update

Arsenal have had the door opened for a potential move for Christopher Nkunku as he has refused to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 21-year-old, tipped as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsey in north London, was heavily linked with a move to reunite with Unai Emery in the January transfer window.

However, due to restricted finances, the Gunners were not able to complete a move for the talented midfielder but Emery could reignite interest this summer.

Arsenal’s interest does not seem to have cooled, as reports from the continent last month suggested a £30m fee was being prepared, and the latest information trickling out of the French capital is extremely positive.

Every word Arsenal's Unai Emery and Alexandre Lacazette just said on Napoli, Aubameyang and Ozil

As reported by Le Parisian, Nkunku has rebuffed a new contract with the Ligue 1 giants, following in the footsteps of fellow midfielder Adrien Rabiot, and his agent Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan opened up about the player’s frustrations.

"The playing time is insufficient. Christopher is open to a departure," he said.

However, Emery’s side may face competition in the fight for Nkunku’s services as it was stated last week that Stade Rennes were in advanced negotiations to sign the France U21 international.

Should Arsenal succeed with a move, Nkunku would add to a strong midfield core at the club that includes Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
