'Unacceptable' CCTV of gang gathered outside takeaway sparks police warning

Police have said that they've noticed more people not following lockdown rules in the past few days.

Officers shared CCTV images taken in Ashurst, Skelmersdale, that show more than a dozen people gathering and 'flouting' the lockdown rules.

The force said that they have noticed a growing amount of rule breaking in the area over the last few days and branded it 'unacceptable'

Posting on the Skelmersdale Police Facebook page, an officer said: "Over the last few days, myself and colleagues have noticed an uptake in rule flouting in the Skelmersdale area.

" Restrictions on social mixing remain in force and we are clear that large gatherings, house parties and events which break the law must not take place – they have the highest risk of harm and we will take immediate action against them.

"We are almost there, and I know this period has been difficult for everybody however rules are rules and the law is the law.

"We know the vast majority of people take personal responsibility and continue to do the right thing- however tempting it is now we seem so close to getting back to some normality."

Officers said they will continue to work with the community and will be 'balanced' but when people 'disregard the law' they will be fined.

The statement said: "We will carry on engaging with people and being balanced but where people deliberately flout and disregard the law, they can expect to have enforcement action taken against them very quickly, including being fined."

Many locals commented on the post, giving support to the police.

One Facebook user said: "It’s very difficult policing at the moment thank you for the clear instructions . Thank you for all you do. "

Another added: "Thank you for your commitment to all our safety, god bless you all."
