Una Healy fails to impress critics with spice bag in new series of The Restaurant

Una Healy fails to impress Marco Pierre White with her own spice bag in the new series of The Resaurant tonight.

The former Saturdays star is set to take to the kitchen with a menu inspired by her childhood memories of growing up in Co Tipperary.

Describing her inspiration behind her menu, the mother of two said she wanted to relive some of her home comforts.

The radio presenter said: “The overall menu for me is my dream menu but also because I’ve been living in the UK for 11 years, I like to come home and have real wholesome Irish food and food that would remind me of growing up.”

For starters, the Ego hitmaker prepared a roasted tomato soup with spinach-filled ravioli which failed to hit the mark with the critics.

The second starter of crab claws in garlic butter served with a porridge bread which was a “taste sensation” hit.

But it was the main course that caused debate as Una, 37, served up rib-eye steak with peppercorn sauce and spice bag chips.

While most diners rejoiced, the top table was unimpressed. Choosing not to taste the dish, Marco said: “Let a celebrity loose in the kitchen and anything can happen!”

Fellow judge Rachel Allen and guest critic Catherine Fulvio agreed there was no place for the takeaway style side dish.

The second main of pan-fried cod with brown butter shrimps and champ won over the dining room. For deserts, she serves a Tipp-Top of the Pops Sundae.

  • The show will air tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media One.
