Una Healy enjoys day five of Galway Races as pregnant woman wins 'Most Stylish' award

38-weeks pregnant Aine Malone was the star of the show as she won the 'Most Stylish' award on a scorcher of a day at the Galway Races today as the festival begins to wind down into the weekend.

Friday, one of the highlights of the summer showcase, was a cracker as the 'Athlone Town centre Most Stylish' award was taken home by the Offaly mum, who will welcome her second child into the world in just two weeks.

Racegoers were also flocking to the parade ring as Tipperary singer-songwriter Una Healy enjoyed festivities with boyfriend David Breen with the pair enjoy their 'Irish holiday' at Thurles and even a trip to an All-Ireland hurling semi-final.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Healy said: "I picked a great week (to come back), I'm kind of having an Irish holiday really.

"I was back down in Thurles and I was in Croke Park last weekend.

"I was with him (David) at the Limerick match. I think it was awful what happened at the end (of the Limerick game). It's disappointing to be that close.

"He was a bit (disappointed) but you know he got over it. It's nice because I've got a lot of friends and family here (in Ireland)."

TV star James Patrice and fashion stylist Marietta Doran were judges in the 'Most Stylish' award and the pair were blown away by the standard of the hopefuls as they enjoyed the day.

Patrice said: "Thursday was Ladies Day, but today for Athlone Town Centre we're looking for something accessible and a bit more fun. Even the high street pieces that we were seeing were phenomenal.

"I think it's kind of people are winding down for the weekend and I just want to see people having a bit of fun. There might be a group of gals having the craic and once people aren't taking it too seriously."

Doran added: "The most important thing is the sense of festival. There's a really good atmosphere to go with the outfits, because I really feel that the ladies are a bit more relaxed, they use that nice evening time style - and it's all a bit of fun as well."

Galway Racecourse managing director Michael Moloney insisted that this year's festival has been a success as racegoers enjoyed a week of sunshine.

And with a €250,000 increase in prize money from 2018 and a new €14 million investment at Ballybrit in the pipeline - Moloney is confident that the festival will have plenty more years to celebrate.

Moloney told the Irish Mirror: "We're very fortunate to be in the west of Ireland and be into day five rain free. It's been a successful week and it's allowed everyone that's come here to be in a good mood and there's been a great atmosphere and a great buzz around.

"Crowds have been slightly down, I'm not overly sure why that is - but the good point is that everyone that has been here seems to have really enjoyed themselves and gone away very happy. So I think that bodes well for the future."
