The United Nations Human Rights Office has issued a warning stating that any forcible transfer or deportation of individuals from occupied territory would be a violation of international law. This caution comes in response to President Donald Trump's recent suggestion that the United States should 'take over' the Gaza Strip and that the Palestinians residing there should vacate the area.
In a statement provided to Reuters on Wednesday, the UNHR emphasized the importance of progressing towards the next phase of the ceasefire. The office stressed the need to release all hostages and arbitrarily detained prisoners, bring an end to the conflict, and initiate the reconstruction of Gaza while upholding international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
The UNHR explicitly stated that any forcible transfer or deportation of individuals from occupied territory is strictly prohibited. This declaration underscores the significance of respecting the rights and protections afforded to individuals under international law.
