The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has escalated its rhetoric against the armed militias in Tripoli and accused Fayez al-Sarraj's Government of National Accord of conspiracy.
UNSMIL late Sunday expressed its "strong condemnation of the violence, intimidation, and obstruction to the work of Libya's sovereign institutions by militiamen".
However, it didn’t reveal the identities of the militias it accused of meddling in administering the country’s affairs.
"The United Nations will report to the international community,” and it would work with the international community and the GNA to "investigate the possibility of bringing sanctions against those interfering with or threatening the operations of any sovereign institution," added UNSMIL.
In the past two days, the mission sided with the National Oil Corporation (NOC) of the GNA. It expressed the UN’s unrelenting support for the independence of the NOC and the rejection of any threats made against it and its staff.
Sarraj's government expressed Monday rejection of the international intervention in the execution sentences of 45 condemned for killing demonstrators during the 2011 uprising against late leader Muammar Gaddafi.
The Libyan Ministry of Justice called "on all parties, particularly international organizations and missions, to refrain from interference in Libyan sovereign affairs, especially the judiciary."
