UN Envoy in Sanaa to Revive Hodeidah Redeployment Plan

United Nations envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths arrived in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, for talks with the Iran-backed Houthi militias to revive the redeployment plan in the Hodeidah province and implementation of the Stockholm agreement.

On Tuesday, he told a UN Security Council briefing that he had presented the legitimate government and Houthis an August 25 deadline to respond his recent proposals on the issues.

The Stockholm deal was signed by the government and Houthis in December and calls for a ceasefire the rapid withdrawals from the key port of Hodeidah and two smaller ports in the province.

Sources from Sanaa International Airport said Griffiths had arrived in the Houthi-held capital without making a statement.

Prior to his arrival, he had held talks in Jeddah on Monday with Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman.

“Tireless role under Khalid bin Salman' leadership to restore order and stability in south Yemen. We agreed on the need for continuous dialogue,” he tweeted.
