The United Nations condemned the attack against a security official in Fayez al-Sarraj’s Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).
The armed assault against Salah Marghani, head of the central security agency at the interior ministry, had taken place in the Greater Tripoli area and the GNA has yet to comment on the incident.
The UN mission in Libya “condemns the attack on Salah Marghani’s house, killing his wife and wounding him, in front of their children,” it said in a statement.
“Gang-style targeted killings and enforced disappearances in Greater Tripoli must end. These crimes are in violation of International Humanitarian Law; perpetrators must be brought to justice,” it added.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack and no official statement has been made over it.
Sarraj had, however, met with various security and military leaders to address the measures taken to secure the Greater Tripoli area.
The meeting was attended by a UN mission liaison officer.
