UN Commission finding says Israel is committing genocide in Gaza

  • A two-year United Nations probe has concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, marking the first time a UN body has reached such a finding.
  • The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry stated Israel "flagrantly disregarded" international law and "orchestrated a genocidal campaign" for almost two years.
  • The report found Israel committed four of the five genocidal acts defined by the 1948 Genocide Convention since October 2023, citing evidence of systematic killings, destruction, starvation, and targeting of children.
  • The Commission also concluded that Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and then Defence Minister Yoav Gallant incited the commission of genocide.
  • Israel's foreign ministry dismissed the report as "antisemitic" and "false," while the Commission urged Israel to end the genocide, implement a ceasefire, and called on member states to cease arms transfers.
