UN Agency Threatens to Suspend Aid in Houthi-Held Regions in Yemen

The United Nations’ World Food Program threatened on Monday to suspend aid to areas under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen due to their looting of aid and fraud in its distribution.

The WFP said its "greatest challenge" in Yemen came from "the obstructive and uncooperative role of some of the Houthi leaders in areas under their control."

Humanitarian workers are being denied access to the hungry, aid convoys have been blocked and local authorities have interfered with food distribution, it added.

Some Houthi leaders have repeatedly obstructed the agency's ability to choose how to distribute the food aid, it charged.

The legitimate government and Saudi-led Arab coalition have repeatedly accused the Houthis of looting aid and Yemen’s resources for their war effort, compounding the suffering of the people.
