Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha gets extension

Umesh Sinha, Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India, who was set to retire on Tuesday, was on Monday given a one-year extension by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

The Cabinet Committee approved the re-employment of Mr. Sinha, a 1986 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, on contract basis from January 1, 2020 till December 31, 2020, an order of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions said.

In the past, Mr. Sinha has served as Chief Election Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, and Higher Education Secretary of the State.
