Ulster vs Leinster OFF as United Rugby Championship confirms decision

Ulster's interpro showdown with Leinster scheduled for New Year's Day is OFF.

The United Rugby Championship have confirmed that Saturday's game at Kingspan Stadium won't go ahead.

It is one of three URC games to be called off, with Dragons vs Cardiff and Edinburgh vs Glasgow Warriors also postponed.

The decision to call off the fixtures was made due to a number of positive Covid-19 cases being reported in the Ulster, Cardiff, Dragons and Glasgow Warriors squads.

The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with the medical teams at those four clubs and their respective health authorities and deemed that these fixtures cannot go ahead as scheduled.

The United Rugby Championship will now consider available dates to reschedule these games.

Speculation was mounting over the interpro game earlier in the day when Ulster cancelled a scheduled 4pm press conference with head coach Dan McFarland.

It is the second successive interpro game to be called off after Boxing Day's game against Connacht was postponed.

Ulster added in a statement: "Ticket holders for the Ulster vs Leinster game are advised that their tickets remain valid for the rescheduled fixture, and the Ulster Rugby Ticket Office will be in touch with options once the new date has been confirmed.

"Please note that the Ulster Rugby Ticket Office will be closed from 4pm on Friday 31 December until 10am on Tuesday 4 January, so no individual queries can be responded to during that time."
