Ulster teams learn their fate as Tailteann Cup quarter-final pairings are revealed

Down will take on Cavan in the pick of the Tailteann Cup quarter-final ties.

The Ulster sides will pitted against each other for the second time this season after the Breffnimen won the Division Three meeting back in March by seven points.

Mickey Graham's side, who also won last year's Tailteann Cup clash between the sides at Kingspan Breffni, went on to secure promotion and are one of the favourites for this year's competition after they lost to Westmeath in last year's decider.

Antrim will also have home advantage in the quarter-finals and they'll welcome Carlow to Corrigan Park this weekend.

Meath will face Wexford in Navan while Limerick host Laois in the remaining fixture.

The draw was made live on RTÉ Radio 1 on Monday morning with the four group stage winners having home advantage against the preliminary quarter-final winners of last weekend’s games.

Laois caused an upset when they dumped Fermanagh out of the competition with a 1-11 to 1-9 win in Brewster Park on Saturday evening.

Earlier in the day, Wexford defeated Offaly in Tullamore while Carlow recovered from a slow start to end New York’s involvement in the Tailteann Cup at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Longford threatened to cause a shock in Newry when they went four points up in the early stages of Saturday night’s clash with the Mournemen.

However, Down ran out eight-point winners with Danny Magill’s goal helping to turn the game in their favour.

The CCCC will confirm the dates, times and venues for this weekend’s fixtures later today, but the majority of the game are expected to be played on Saturday with the third round of the All-Ireland SFC also scheduled for this weekend.

Cavan’s home venue is already in use for a double-header on Sunday with Kingspan Breffni Park hosting Dublin’s clash with Sligo before Tyrone’s tie against Westmeath.

The Gaelic Grounds will also host Mayo versus Cork on Sunday so there is a possibility of Limerick’s clash with Laois forming a double-header.

Tailteann Cup quarter-finals:

(Games scheduled for weekend of June 17/18 with first team named at home)

Antrim v Carlow
