Ulster team v Toulouse: Marcell Coetzee ruled out of Champions Cup tie

Ulster will be without star forward Marcell Coetzee for Sunday's Champions Cup quarter-final against Toulouse.

Coetzee has lost out in his race to be fit for the massive European tie at Stade Ernest-Wallon (12:30pm kick-off BST).

The former Springbok was replaced just 48 minutes into last week’s 27-5 defeat to Leinster in the Guinness PRO14 final at the Aviva.

Head coach Dan McFarland later revealed that the experienced back rower was wrestling with a “couple of niggles”.

Coetzee will be replaced at number eight by Nick Timoney, one of four changes made by McFarland for the tie.

John Cooney returns to Ulster's starting line-up after being dropped to the bench for last Saturday's Pro14 final.

Cooney will be paired with Billy Burns at fly-half, while the rest of the starting backline remains unchanged.

Michael Lowry is named at full-back, with Jacob Stockdale and Rob Lyttle on the wings. Midfield duo, Stuart McCloskey and James Hume, will once again start.

In the front row, Jack McGrath comes in at loosehead to join Rob Herring at hooker and Tom O’Toole at tighthead prop.

Iain Henderson will lead the side and is joined by Alan O’Connor in the second row.

Sean Reidy makes a positional switch to blindside, while Jordi Murphy and Nick Timoney come in to the starting XV at openside and number eight.

McFarland has once again opted for a 6-2 split on the bench.

John Andrew, Eric O’Sullivan, Marty Moore, Sam Carter, Kieran Treadwell and Matthew Rea will provide forward options, while Alby Mathewson and Matt Faddes offer cover for the backs.
