Ulster players and staff Covid-19 free after latest round of PCR tests

Ulster players have been given a clean bill of health following the latest round of Covid-19 tests ahead of next month’s scheduled return to Pro14 action.

The Irish Rugby Football Union has confirmed that a second round of PCR testing of players and staff at both Ulster and Connacht had produced “zero positive results”.

A spokesman revealed no fewer than 149 players and staff had been tested across the two provinces on Wednesday July 15.

The staff and players at Ulster are now clear to enter the next phase of their return to rugby which includes a graduated resumption of contact training.

Leinster and Munster will undergo their second round of PCR testing in the coming weeks.

To date there have been 407 tests conducted across the professional player and staff group with zero positive tests reported.

IRFU Medical Director Rod McLoughlin said: “The first tranche of the second round of PCR testing has been successfully completed.

“The players and staff will continue to undergo daily medical screening and assessment.

“Leinster and Munster will undergo their second testing round when they return from their mid pre-season breaks.”
