Ulster Hospital A&E under 'extreme pressure' as 50 wait to be admitted

A warning has been issued for patients that they will be waiting a long time at the Ulster Hospital A&E if their condition is not life-threatening.

The South Eastern Trust has said that its emergency department is under "extreme pressure" with 82 patients in the department, 50 waiting to be admitted.

The hospital is warning of lengthy waits for those who do not have life-threatening injuries and has signposted patients to other services.

The Trust said: "The Ulster Hospital Emergency Department is under extreme pressure.

"There are over 82 patients in our department, 50 awaiting admission.

"If your condition is not life threatening you will have to wait a long time.

"Other services are there to help: https://setrust.hscni.net/our-hospitals/help-us-help-you/."

Yesterday, the Belfast Trust issued a similar warning regarding the emergency department at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children saying that it was "extremely busy".

It said: "Our Children’s Emergency Department is extremely busy.

"Seriously ill or injured children will be seen first. There may be a long wait for anyone not in urgent need.

"Keep ED for emergencies."
