Ulster head coach Dan McFarland fears Heineken Champions Cup KO for Iain Henderson

Ulster head coach Dan McFarland has revealed that Iain Henderson could “potentially” miss next month’s European clashes with Clermont and Northampton with a hamstring injury.

Henderson is expected to be out for several weeks after breaking down during Ireland’s warm-up prior to Sunday's Autumn Nations Series win over Argentina.

And that means the 29-year-old is a major doubt for the forthcoming Heineken Champions Cup games with Clermont (A) and Northampton (H) on December 11 and 17.

Asked if there is a timeframe for Henderson’s return from injury, McFarland said: “Not yet, but it’ll certainly be a few weeks.”

On the injury putting the lock’s participation against Clermont and Northampton in jeopardy, he replied: “Potentially yes.”

Henderson has been added to a lengthy Ulster current injury list which includes...

  • Will Addison (lower leg)

  • Cormac Izuchukwu (knee)

  • Jack McGrath (hip)

  • Luke Marshall (knee)

  • Jordi Murphy (knee)

  • Jacob Stockdale (ankle)

  • Ben Moxham (groin)

Ulster, who return to action for the first time in a month this weekend, travel to the RDS on Saturday night for a inter-provincial showdown with Leinster (8pm).

Their last United Rugby Championship game was back on October 23 when the province suffered a dispiriting 36-11 defeat to Connacht at the Aviva Stadium.
