Ulster GAA give green light for 500 fans at club games - but wait inter-county guidance

Ulster GAA has given the green light for crowds of up to 500 to attend club matches within the six counties from Monday.

But the province's administrators will wait for guidance from Croke Park next week over a return of supporters to inter-county ties.

It comes after the Northern Ireland executive further eased Covid-19 restrictions yesterday, among which will see the cap of 100 fans at club GAA matches increased to 500 supporters.

"The onus is on units to stage games safely and in accordance with the Executive guidelines, including advice pertaining to social distancing," a statement from Ulster GAA read today.

But the situation for inter-county matches is more complicated.

The GAA has not permitted fans back into the stands across the 32 counties since the Allianz Hurling and Football Leagues resumed two weeks ago.

It has been stated in recent weeks by the Irish Government that supporters, in any volume, will likely have to wait until July to return to inter-county matches on a trial basis.

But the acceleration of the easing of restrictions in the six counties might see the organisation consider allowing fans into games held there.

On Saturday next in that last round of the league, Armagh host Donegal, Tyrone welcome Donegal, while Fermanagh take on Longford in Brewster Park on Saturday week.
