Ulrika Jonsson defends 'sad and lonely' Coleen Rooney for forgiving Wayne

Ulrika Jonsson has defended Coleen Rooney for taking back her cheating husband Wayne Rooney after various scandals.

During a trailer for the upcoming Amazon Prime documentary that focuses on the footballer, Coleen discusses their private life, and said while she’s forgiven Wayne for his boozing and affairs, she doesn't think it’s acceptable.

The WAG has been criticised for sweeping her husband’s infidelity under the carpet, but Coleen, who shares four sons with Wayne, blamed the “groups” the footballer was hanging around with at the time.

In a lengthy op-ed for The Sun, Ulrika has defended the mum-of-four, and said she feels sorry for the 35-year-old, who she called “sad and lonely”.

She speculated that friends and family must have “passed comment” on Wayne’s affairs to Coleen, and Ulrika said many other women would’ve divorced the footballer if they were “in her shoes”.

But the former Gladiators presenter said she wanted Coleen to find happiness amid her husband’s infidelity, and held a soft spot for the couple due to her previous cheating scandal.

Ulrika said she had been unfaithful in her first marriage to John Turnbull, who she wed in 1990 and split from five years later, and she said if her husband had not forgiven her, she wouldn’t have become a mum.

“I was unfaithful in my first marriage and I was taken back by a husband who valued our relationship more than he hated what I had done to us,” she explained.

“And without that, I would not have had my oldest child, Cameron, who is about to turn 27,” Ulrika said, adding that the she and John “did not manage to run the entire marriage marathon” because she was too immature.

The former Shooting Stars team captain has plenty in common with Coleen, as they are both mum to four children, and Ulrika said she was full of admiration for the Liverpudlian’s strength and resolve during the affairs that rocked her marriage.

“She understands the value of her husband as a father in their boys’ lives,” Ulrika noted, as she suggested Coleen had to “forego another kind of happiness” as she forgave her cheating husband.

During the trailer for the upcoming documentary Rooney, the footballer spoke about the after-effects of his well-publicised affairs, and said people look at him differently.

“For me, it's important that people remember me for who I am rather than what I've done,” he stated.
