Ulidia House protest held in South Belfast over 'sex offenders' allegedly housed in flats

Residents in South Belfast have held a protest over alleged sex offenders reportedly being housed in a block of flats.

A crowd gathered outside Ulidia House on the Sandy Row and Donegall Road junction on Saturday evening at around 7pm.

One source told Belfast Live: "After some investigating by locals over a previous serious assault within these apartments recently, they became aware of at least one and maybe more convicted paedophiles living in these apartments.

"It was all peaceful with another protest tomorrow night. Locals have said that they will continue to protest until the paedophiles are removed and assurances are given of a no return of any sex offenders to the apartments."

Police confirmed that the protest passed off peacefully.

Chief Inspector Keith Hutchinson said: "Police were aware of a protest in the Donegall Road area of south Belfast around 7pm last night, Saturday 18th May.

"Police attended. No incidents were reported and the crowd dispersed peacefully around 8pm."
