Uli Hoeness reignites war of words with Man City with fresh FFP blast

Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has hit out at CAS and Manchester City after their UEFA imposed ban was overturned.

The English side were banned from the Champions League and fined back in November.

City protested their innocence however and saw the ruling for breaches of FFP rules thrown out much to Hoeness's dismay.

The German has also questioned UEFA's rules and their evidence against the Etihad side.

“When I read the reasoning by the international sports court CAS why it withdrew this sentence, I have to ask myself what all this is about,” Hoeness told Goal.

“Ultimately, UEFA's reasoning was simply weak. In principle, the CAS saw it the same way, but did not provide any solid evidence of Manchester City's behaviour.

“If the judges at CAS have come to the conclusion that UEFA did a poor job, one need not wonder what the result is.

"The verdict was a clear slap in the face for UEFA. We still have to do with Manchester City - and the club can't help it if things are poorly prepared.”

Current City boss Pep Guardiola previously worked under Hoeness when he was in charge at the Allianz Arena.

His City side could come up against Bayern in the last four of the Champions League should they both progress that far.

Guardiola has had to continuously defend his team and their handling of affairs after a host of Premier League managers criticised the decision to allow City back in the European competition.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claimed it was a "bad day for football" while Jose Mourinho questioned why City had the ban overturned but their fine upheld.

The City boss responded to their critics by saying: "People said we cheated we’re lying, many, many times; the presumption of innocence was not there.

"And, after, when it happened and it was right, of course we are incredibly happy because we can again defend what we have done on the pitch.”
