Ukrainian broadcaster forced to cut short Loose Women interview as sirens are heard

An Ukrainian journalist was forced to cut short her interview with Loose Women today after sirens were heard.

Marichka Padalko - who is a broadcaster for one of Ukrainian's biggest TV channels - called in to speak to Ruth Langsford, Frankie Bridge, Janet Street Porter and Kéllé Bryan on the ITV show today about staying behind in Ukraine to continue to bring the news to the country 24 hours a day with colleagues from other channels.

However, as they started the interview, Marichka was forced to cut it short as she heard sirens in the background. As she began to speak about the tough situation in Ukraine, her colleagues could be seen moving about frantically in the background.

Ruth spoke to Marichka (ITV)

She said: "What we're hearing now in the studio is that airstrikes have been announced in the studio that's having a live broadcast now, so I'm going to have get ready to fill in. Unfortunately, I have to say goodbye and maybe join you on another occasion."

Viewers tuning into Loose Women praised Marichka for being so strong.

"Just absolutely shocking. Stay safe Marichka, incredible woman. God Bless Xx #loosewomen," one wrote, as another added: "My goodness that broke my heart to watch, hope Marichka and her colleagues stay safe #LooseWomen."

"What a wonderful strong lady that reporter is. I can’t imagine what they are all going through #LooseWomen," a third shared, with a fourth writing: "Stay safe Marichka. How awful. It breaks my heart. #LooseWomen."

A fifth penned: "Having to say goodbye because your fearing for your life... I can't even imagine #LooseWomen," with a sixth writing: "Marichka is broken isn’t she? She’s trying to put a brave face on but she’s utterly broken #LooseWomen."

Later, Marichka returned to the show to explain how difficult it has been for both her and her family.

"One of your colleagues asked me this morning 'how are you', and I didn't know the right answer," she admitted, as she explained she is lucky because her family - including her children and husband - are all safe.

Janet Street Porter asked if she could see a way out from all of this, to which Marichka explained: "They never expected such a resistance ... Even in the Kremlin, they should be really disappointed that this mission actually failed."

Giving a message to the UK, Marichka urged people to appreciate every moment with their family. She was nearly in tears, as she urged people to do what they wanted to and could do, as she encouraged people to appreciate what they have.
