Ukraine strikes Moscow high-rise days before Russia’s military parade

  • A suspected Ukrainian drone strike damaged the Mosfilm Tower, a luxury high-rise residential building in central Moscow, causing damage to multiple floors but no casualties.
  • The attack occurred just days before Russia's annual Victory Day parade on 9 May, which the Kremlin has already scaled back due to a “terrorist threat”.
  • The Mosfilm Tower is located about 7km from Red Square and 3km from the Russian defence ministry.
  • The UK is set to begin talks to join the European Union's £78bn loan scheme for Ukraine, with Sir Keir Starmer advocating for increased support for Kyiv.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked King Charles for his “strong words” of support and urged allies for more military aid and sanctions against Russia.
