Ukraine's Zelensky says '100 kids' hearts have stopped' in pleading speech to US Congress

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky made a touching address to US Congress, saying "I see no sense in life" if he cannot stop the deaths of innocent people.

Zelensky renewed calls for a no-fly zone to be established to save Ukrainian lives and stop Russia “terrorising our free cities”.

But he also suggested an alternative, for America to supply his troops with Soviet-made air defence systems and fighter jets to block Russian aggression.

He initially addressed Congress in Ukrainian, but made his last few words in English in a powerful moment.

"Now I'm almost 45 years old.

"Today my age, stopped when the heart of more than 100 children stopped beating. I see no sense in life, that cannot stop the deaths."

The Ukrainian President even invoked the words of Martin Luther King as he called for a no-fly zone.

He said: "I have a dream. These words are known to each of you today.

"I can say I have a need — I need to protect our sky. "I need.... your help. Which means exactly the same. The same you feel when you hear the words 'I have a dream'"
