HYDERABAD: The latest Russian attacks on Sumy in Ukraine have left Indian students stranded with sounds of explosions and missile attacks haunting them.
As a result of explosions that rocked Sumy, there was power failure and no water supply at the Sumy State University.
A video of students collecting snow to quench their thirst in Sumy was shared in students’ groups to show how bad the situation was for the medical students.
Late on Friday, hostel no. 2 and 3 in the university had been restored with water supply. Some sent a water tanker to meet their water needs. Students put videos showing how they were collecting water from pipes with snow melting on the terrace of their accommodation.
The students said they had no option but to drink the unhygienic water.
A student, Srinath posted a video on social media with an appeal by a group of students seeking evacuation from Sumy. “There was a huge explosion near the international students’ hostel. We have no food. There is no electricity and water,” he said. The students are also having a problem of internet.
In an emotionally chocked voice, a student Mahtab recorded a video with several other students of the hostels saying that there was no water for them to even cook and that survival had become difficult. Over the last few days, Mahtab has become the voice of the hundreds of students stuck in the international hostels in Sumy. He has been making videos and explaining the difficult situation they were in.
A student from Telangana, Nizamuddin informed his family about the problems they were facing because of power and water supply disruptions. “What about us? What about those spending nights uncomfortably in bunkers without any sources for food, water and basic necessities? How many blasts until we go home?” a student Mahek Shaikh said posting a reply to a video of Union civil aviation minister seeing off Indian students on evacuation flights.
