LUCKNOW: It was yet another day of suffering and disappointment for the 700-odd Indian students, including some from UP, stuck in Sumy city of war-hit Ukraine for the past 11 days.
The students continue to face the freezing cold, scarcity of food and frequent power cuts in the area in the last 24 hours.
Some of the students were also dejected when the shops they were told had open were found to be shut as they ran out of stock.
MBBS student from Sumy University, Aman Mishra from Kushinagar, said, “Today is the 11th day and no aide/assistance has been provided to us. There is a food crisis, water crisis and frequent electricity outages in the area.”
Another student, Chandresh Pandey, who is from Gorakhpur, said that the last bite of biscuit he had got was finished and now he had nothing to eat.
“I will either have to fast or go out in snowfall, braving Russian bullets to find something to eat,” he said.
Pandey also said that last night some forms were sent to them to fill up for evacuation but nothing happened.
“There is nothing on the ground. We have been given only assurances. There are only two routes. First is taking buses to Poltava then to Laviv and then Poland or Russia provides us a passage,” said a girl student, who wished not to be named.
She also said that students are slowly going into a state of depression, some even falling ill.
Shruti, who is the elder sister of Kriti stuck in Sumy, said, “The last 11 days have been the worst phase in our life. We wake up daily in the hope that Kriti will return soon.”
