A well-known farm is helping to highlight the generosity of the Ayrshire public.
Mossgiel Organic Farm has been rallying the locals and collecting supplies to send directly to the warzone in Ukraine, and also to Poland to help refugees fleeing Ukraine.
The Mauchline farm has taken in a whopping three artic lorries worth of stuff, which is going straight to Europe this week to help those most in need.
The response has been triggered after Russia invaded Ukraine as Vladimir Putin declared war on the country, which has a population of 44 million.
The donation process got so busy that the entire village of Mauchline was at a total standstill at one point due to so many people attempting to help out the cause.
And a delighted director and farmer at Mossgiel, Bryce Cunningham, said: “We wanted to help out the Ukraine crisis in any way we could, we were thinking of ideas on how we could help.
“We actually have two members of staff who are Polish, and they had teamed up with a friend working out how to get goods from Scotland to Poland to help the refugee situation over there.
“They weren’t getting much publicity for it, and since we have a massive social media following we thought why not have a drop off point to get stuff to some lorries in Glasgow?
“We just sort of decided we wanted to do our bit, and it’s went a bit crazy!
“We have been taking donations for a couple of days, and at one point the village was actually gridlocked.
“We have been supported unbelievably well, our aim was to fill an artic lorry, and we have managed to fill three so far, it has been quite incredible, absolutely amazing.
“The response from the public has been pretty overwhelming at times to be honest, we’ve had a lot of volunteers in helping.
“The team here has been great too, we have 25 staff members and they are all pulling together.”
Bryce added: “The lorry that left on Monday morning is on its way to Poland to help refugees.
“There’s a lorry leaving on Wednesday is going directly to Ukraine into the warzone to help injured people and families who can’t leave.”
Bryce admits he was as shocked as anyone to see the events unfold in Ukraine, and says it was just a case of doing what they can to help out.
He said: “It’s awful what’s happening, for something like this to happen in our life time is unbelievable really, it’s great to see everyone getting behind the cause.
“It shows the spirit of people, we have got such a fantastic Polish and Ukrainian community in Scotland too, they are great people, it’s our time to help them out.”
