- A UK-wide emergency alert drill is scheduled for Sunday, September 7, around 3pm, sending a test message to mobile phones connected to 4G and 5G networks.
- During the drill, mobile phones will vibrate and emit a siren sound for up to 10 seconds, accompanied by a message clarifying it is a test.
- This marks the second national test of the system, following the first in 2023, and it has been used five times for real warnings, including during Storm Eowyn and Storm Darragh.
- The system is designed to deliver life-saving advice during major emergencies, capable of targeting specific at-risk areas, and warnings can also be broadcast via TV and radio.
- Mobile phone users have the option to opt out of receiving these emergency alerts by adjusting their device's settings.
