UK Weather: What Met Office says about chance of heatwave

Summer could be on the way back with some forecasters predicting temperatures will soar again soon.

Experts say the mercury could climb into the high 20s C next week for much of England and Wales with areas even nearing 30C in the south-east, reports ExpressOnline.

It will be slightly cooler in Scotland and Northern Ireland where highs of 21C are expected.

The change in weather will come when high pressure takes charge during the weekend and the jet stream moves away from the UK.

This will allow warmer more settled conditions to bathe much of the country during latter stages of the month - although there will still be some volatile spells of thundery showers.

For the rest of this week, further scattered thunderstorms are likely on Wednesday, but generally it will be bright and warm.

More persistent rain may affect parts of central and southern UK on Thursday but it will still feel warm and humid during any sunny spells.

More settled conditions are expected in many places during the weekend and early next week.

This is what the Met Office says

Many areas are likely to see a mixture of sunny spells and showers, some of which may turn heavy in places.

Parts of the west and northwest may see cloudier and breezier conditions at times along with some outbreaks of rain.

Other areas are likely to see a more settled, warm period next week with some sunshine, before more changeable conditions possibly return more generally.

However, confidence is low in this aspect. Throughout the period, temperatures should be generally near or a little above average.

Coastal areas in the east could still have some spells of persistent cloud accompanied by cooler conditions.
