UK weather: Wet and windy start to the week before temperatures soar

Wet and windy weather is set to continue across much of the UK early this week before giving way to brighter and warmer conditions, with a possible high of 30C in the southeast by Friday.

Showers are expected on Monday across England and Wales though brighter spells will push through in some areas later in the day, according to Met Office forecasters. Conditions will be windy with the chance of gales in more exposed areas.

The unsettled weather will make its way up to northeast Scotland, where it will linger throughout Tuesday bringing heavy rains and high winds.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, skies will be brighter though showers are still expected in northwestern areas.

Temperatures will rise across the UK in the later part of the week, with a chance that parts of the south east will see a high of 30C, the Met Office forecasts.

By Wednesday, most places will be dry with lighter winds but northwestern areas may still see some rain coming into Thursday.

Britons can expect a bright and warm end to the week, with high temperatures across the UK on Friday.
