UK weather: Thunderstorms to batter parts of Britain before scorching heatwave returns

After a week of gorgeous weather, thunderstorms are predicted to batter parts of Britain.

Forecasters have predicted that most of the country will see torrential downpours and thunderstorms from Monday, the Mirror reports.

The Met Office warned that throughout Monday parts of northern and eastern England would bear the brunt of the worst of the weather.

Forecasters have urged people from those areas to expect some heavy showers as well as a thundery weather throughout the day.

Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell said: "Those showers could be quite heavy and intense, and thundery in some areas.

"However other parts of the country will see a relatively nice day."

The Met Office has predicted that there will be some 'occasionally heavy' showers in the North East today.

Dry and sunny conditions will return on Tuesday for most areas, although cloudy skies are forecast across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
