UK weather: Thunder and rain to sweep through Britain

Thunderstorms and rain are set to batter parts of the UK as forecasters say there's no sign yet of another heatwave.

The Met Office's long-range forecast shows a repeat of the 'wall-to-wall' sunshine seen at the end of May is unlikely.

Met Office spokesman Oli Clayden Mirror Online: "It doesn't look like at the moment like there's going to be the wall-to-wall sunshine and blue skies that we saw a few weeks back."

And thunder and rain will sweep through parts of the UK between Wednesday and Thursday.

But Mr Clayden said the forecast was monitored day by day, and was likely to change.

"Many areas are likely to see a mixture of bright or sunny spells and showers, some of which may turn heavy in places," it continues.

It also forecasts temperatures around average or above what is expected for this time of year for the foreseeable future.

During late June across the south of the UK, forecasters warns of a risk of some spells of rain becoming heavy and possibly thundery.

The east may remain cooler and cloudier during the same period.

In July, it's hoped the weather will turn more settled with prolonged drier and sunnier spells for much of the UK.

However a chance of showers will remain, with temperatures predicted to return to average.

Bristol will enjoy sunny skies until around 3pm when there's 50 per cent chance of rain and thunderstorms. Highs of 20C are predicted on Tuesday.
