UK weather: Three days of rain to hit in aftermath of Storm Brendan

Britain is set to be battered by days of heavy rain and gusts in the aftermath of Storm Brendan.

The Met Office has warned of "heavy bursts of rain" as consecutive bouts of wet and windy downpours hit the country.

No weather warnings are in place, as of yet, but the Environment Agency has issued 160 flood alerts across the UK, reports the Mirror.

This comes after a 48-hour period of wild weather which saw Storm Brendan hammering the UK and causing flights to divert from Gatwick Airport.

And just as Britain was picking itself up, it appears every day until Monday could be a wash out.

Lighter spells of rain are set to be mixed with heavy bursts meaning traffic is likely to be hit hard, particularly for those looking to take a short weekend break.

Forecaster Lucy Verasamy said: "Into Friday brighter skies return once more, a touch calmer, but lumpy downpours across the north and the west."

Temperatures are set to remain fairly mild, reaching highs of 10C over the weekend.

In Bristol, residents should wake up on Friday (January 17) to a dry, sunny start but things could turn wet around 11am when there's a 40 per cent chance of rain.

Although the mercury will hover around 7C, the feels like temperatures are a lot colder barely climbing above 3C for most of the day.

UK weather forecast

Friday:

Sunny spells and showers, some heavy and quite prolonged. Heaviest showers will tend to be in the south and west and it will feel a little colder than today.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Rather cold but largely settled with sunny spell and overnight frost this weekend. Windy in the far north with showers on Saturday. Turning unsettled in the northwest on Monday.
