UK weather: Temperatures to hit 24C but sunshine to vanish by weekend with rain on way

Brit sunseekers can soak up sizzling temperatures which could reach 24C but a split remains in the country with the “west the best” the Met Office has said.

The warmest weather is expected to be in the west with the Met Office predicting temperatures in Wales reaching 24C while parts of Northern Ireland hitting 23C.

“It is going to feel very warm in the sunshine, 22C to 24C, 21C for Belfast,” said forecaster Clare Nasir.

“Generally a lot of cloud across the eastern side of the country over the next 24 hours and beyond and with a northerly wind we are seeing low cloud just fade in across the northern facing coasts.

The west of the country is expected to have the best of the weather on Wednesday while the north is also set to be drier (SWNS.com)

“West will be best for sunshine through Wednesday.”

She added: “A fine day across Wales as well as the West Country but that sunshine could spark off one or two showers and we hang onto the cloud anywhere from the border regions, Northumberland, East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, East Anglia down towards the South East and again a little showery rain”.

For Scotland it can expect “brighter skies” as the day continues.

Tennis fans have seen a soggy start to Wimbledon but they should at least have drier weather on Wednesday with early rain disappearing by midday and temperatures expected to peak at around 18C.

It follows downpours over the first two days of the championships have seen matches interrupted or cancelled.

Becky Mitchell, a meteorologist from the Met Office, said: "There will be a grey and cloudy start to Wimbledon, with light patchy drizzle and on and off rain until lunchtime.

"It will be dry by the afternoon, with increasing sunshine."

Temperatures could climb to 21C for Thursday but there remains a threat of rain in the south and it is put at 20 percent for Wimbledon.

There is also a warning for spectators to remember their sun cream with UV levels high as are pollen levels.

But the rain is expectedly to quickly return for Wimbledon with showers forecast for Friday and the downpour is expected to get heavier over the weekend.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Met Office says it will be "increasingly humid" with "rain or showers for most".
